LIVINGSOLIDS Design4Assembly

Virtual objects physically represented

LIVINGSOLIDS Design4Assembly enables the intuitively, virtual validation of assembly and disassembly processes with the help of haptic 3D input units. Thanks to high-precision force feedback, penetration prevention and real-time collision control, this application opens up a large cost and time saving potential in the evaluation of a construction. In product design we are speaking in terms of assembly suitability and the installability.

Our software conforms to your work and your processes – not vice versa.

In the truest sense of our philosophy, LIVINGSOLIDS Design4Assembly is an interactive software application that facilitates the work of constructing engineers and production schedulers significantly. In a few steps the software is added to the 3D CAD data and generates, in no time at all, interactive 3D models, with elementary menu navigation and intuitive operation, with up to six degrees of freedom. The exceptionally high system compatibility allows the engineer the comfortable integration of the application in one’s own familiar work surroundings. Our universal interface enables a safe data import from all current CAD construction programs. Just as effortlessly, after the analysis has been carried out, the data can be exported back in the source application or in other varied output formats. Naturally, as a LIVINGSOLIDS solution, Design4Assembly is integrated into our software suite.

Integration of a haptic 3D input unit

Design4Assembly comes with particular characteristics, such as real-time collision control and penetration prevention, for a lifelike and especially intuitive interaction with the virtual model. This allows realistic simulations of joining procedures with surfaces that glide onto one another. The addition of force feedback 3D input units is intended as a further enhancement of the truly realistic. With these you get an added exact haptic feedback in motion and the collision of simulated components. The feasibility of intuitive work will therefore be multiply advanced and the validation process further accelerated.

Design4Assembly supports the integration of haptic 3D installation devices, of the firm Haption, for the implementation of force feedback assembly simulation. To this end, an intensive cooperation between LIVINGSOLIDS and Haption S.A. has been agreed upon. As a technology partner, Haption offers, in the field of robotics, decade long experience in world-wide industrial projects for well-known clients in the fields of automation, aerospace, medicine.

Features

  • Force feedback, penetration prevention and real-time collision control
enable intuitive, very realistic work, the sensing of possible collision points and the rapid detection of collision-free integration pathways.

  • High performance software interfaces
ensure a quick and easy integration of the application in the existing IT-environment. Extensive software adaptations are avoided. The data import from all current CAD programs and the data export in the source application or in a variety of other output formats can be carried out quickly and smoothly.

  • A high level of system compatibility
permits a multitude of utilizations. From  the desktop solution at the engineer’s work station up to immersive installations with tracking and stereoscopic multi-channel projection for analysis in walk-in virtual spaces (e.g. CAVE).

  • Multifaceted analysis options
The optical accentuation of colliding objects    and collision points makes their identification easier. The evaluation of the spatial situation is supported by means of an active or passive stereoscopic presentation and through the additional simultaneous perspective of real-time activity. Sections of the virtual model are optional and can be set just in time, transparency is, as desired, super imposable.

  • Automatic path acquisition and changed conditions review
During the simulation, established support paths can be recorded on demand and, following that, can be played back or diverted. This way they cannot get lost and, moreover, are available for further downstream applications in PLM. Depending on further changes, previously established paths can be replayed with already changed components and, with an activated collision assessment, retested for collision freedom.

  • Synergetic integration in PLM
Upon completion of the analysis, the established paths remain available for continuative applications. From 2D/3D-PDF for the automatic document compilation, through 3D applications for further engineering tasks up to interactive videos for assembly instructions, the presentation or the service personnel – Design4Assembly supports the synergetic further use of obtained memory in the overall product lifecycle.
